I thank you most heartily for your gracious gesture in asking me to address you on this happy occasion. In one way or another, much of the work I shall report to you today was gathered or had its inception here in Edinburgh on earlier visits and I am, therefore, both grateful and proud to be given this opportunity to participate in this manner in the Challenger Expedition Centenary.
