The investigations described in this paper dealt with the behaviour of specimens of specially pure nickel under various conditions and in varying magnetising fields. Several experiments were carried out.

I. The specimen being in the form of a bar about 30 cms. long and the purpose of the experiment being to find the nature of the curve of magnetisation at low magnetic fields, Lord Rayleigh's magnetometric arrangement (Scientific Papers, vol. ii) was used.
