La Asamblea del Comité International de la Cruz Roja (CICR) reeligió, el 12 de diciembre de 1991, al señor Cornelio Sommaruga, por un nuevo mandato de cuatro años, para ocupar la presidencia del CICR, cargo que desempeña desde mayo de 1987.

En esta misma reunión, la Asamblea del CICR eligió al señor Pierre Keller para el cargo de vicepresidente no permanente, como sucesor del señor Maurice Aubert, que sigue siendo miembro del CICR por un cuarto mandato, al igual que el señor Rudolf Jäckli.
