1 Yet another idiosyncrasy of Lloyd's hand was a tendency to begin some words with a larger lower-case letter, particularly in his London Diary in words beginning with ‘N’. The result is occasional ambiguity with regard to transcription; in such cases, I have rendered these letters in lower case.
