Abstract

The author reviews the theoretical and empirical literature on L1 and L2 acquisition in light of the latest version of generative grammar, and uses the results of these studies to formulate an approach to the acquisition of L2 grammatical competence. A certain background in generative grammar is necessary to follow her exposition.
