Diagnosis of the solar atmosphere using solar oscillations
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 03 August 2017
Abstract
I present a review of the art of using acoustic and gravity waves as a tool to probe the structure of the solar atmosphere. The principle ideas behind the technique are discussed and a small bouquet of results is presented. The current discrepancies are pointed out, and in the last section a few thoughts are let loose about the inversion of data to deduce the physical state of the atmosphere.
