BJPsych Deputy Editor (Research Integrity Investigations)

We are inviting applications from any board member for this position. You need not be a psychiatrist but must have a record and interest in research integrity processes. Applications from strong applicants who are not board members will be considered.
We expect that you will:
- Coordinate and lead any research integrity investigations
- Identify suitable subject experts to assist, from the editorial board and from the research integrity group
- Build good practice processes and policies into the way we handle such investigations
- Set out thresholds for what happens when and when to investigate and when not to
- Provide model templates for communications
- Liaise with the legal department of the college and consult relevant third parties where appropriate
- Keep sound documentation given such matters are legally, ethically, and professionally sensitive
- Report to the Editor-in-Chief and set up a reporting structure and schedule to inform the board
- Follow the timeline to complete investigations in a timely manner, factoring in the various communications and processes that are proposed or required
- Provide audit data for the Research Integrity Groups of new, pending, and complete investigations
- Share learning with other journals in the BJPsych portfolio and support the training of editorial board members to uphold the highest standards.
This is a new and important role. The position is honorary and not subject to remuneration. The Editor (RII) will not be expected to take on any other editorial duties but to interface with the board on all matters related to RII. It is anticipated the demand would equate to no more than one half day a week on average, although there will be periods of no investigations or periods of several of different levels of gravity.
The college is considering additional support for research integrity in terms of administration and assistant staff. Currently, the managing editor of BJPsych will provide the link with college comms and procedures.
The position is for a tenure of three years, renewable subject to review for another three years.
