The Scream: My Life with ADHD (2004). Darcy Easton (aged 11)

This picture won first prize in an art competition for young people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It was voted overall winner by delegates at the Sixth International ADDISS (ADHD Information Services) Conference held in Liverpool in 2004. The artist is a young boy from Livingston, West Lothian. His painting is based on Edvard Munch's famous work. Darcy was attracted to the picture because it conveys how he sometimes feels, especially when he is with people who do not understand his condition. For example, on occasions he is fidgety and this can draw critical comments from others who do not realise that this behaviour is beyond his control. Darcy drew the picture at school and received a lot of encouragement from his teacher. Thanks to Darcy's mother, Anne Easton.
