About this Elements series:

The Elements in Economic History series showcases cutting-edge research by leading scholars in the field. Designed to make new scholarship accessible to a broad audience of researchers, students and general readers, the volumes highlight the most exciting and productive recent trends, methods, and research questions in economic history. By design, the series also stimulates the development of new perspectives that might otherwise not surface, encouraging innovation and experimentation in analytical tools as well as in research topics. The series covers all time periods and world regions and is interested in any aspect of the human historical activity and experience which is relevant to the economic sphere. Concise and authoritative, the series also strives to be timely, in order to increase the visibility of economic historians’ work as well as to maximize the impact that their insights and perspectives can have on contemporary social and political debates.
