About this Elements series

This series aims to offer an accessible and influential account of the relationship between the humanities and health practices, theories of health, and experiences of healthcare in a truly global context. The humanities play a crucial part in broadening the definition of health. Stories, dance, singing, chanting, roleplaying, and artistic representation have shaped health practices all over the world for thousands of years. These Elements balance new and fresh interpretations of the field with useful overviews that will be of use to readers new to the subject. Combined, they offer a rigorous account of health humanities while taking the subject into new and diverse territories through both a truly global and radical focus, and the inclusion of sounds, images, and videos.

The series presents unprecedented coverage of the topic, exploring major health emergencies and the roles the humanities have had, and continue to have, in attempts to address them. It also considers innovative methodological approaches which seek to decolonise the subject and deconstruct its traditional associations with Western history.
