Modern Architecture and Cultural Identity includes monographic studies of important monuments created between 1850 and 1950 by European and American architects. Methodologically, they reflect a recent trend in modern architecture studies, which have attempted to clarify the delicate balancing act achieved by architects working in a modernist idiom who maintained, nonetheless, a strong allegiance to their cultural roots. Developed in response to this trend, the series explores the complex interplay between modern identity and local, regional, national, and cultural traditions.
