Abstract

A modern era statue of Athena is necessary at the premises of the new building of the National Library of Greece. While the aesthetics and functionality of the Renzo Piano-designed NLG building at SNFCC are undoubtedly excellent, visitors and employees at the Library will benefit from a new statue of Pallas Athena. This draft argues for this necessity, and discusses a number of decisions that have to be made by the modern sculptors who will create the new work of art.
