Cambridge University Press & Assessment aligns schools operations

Cambridge University Press & Assessment has confirmed plans to align its schools operations following an internal review that began in October 2021 after the merger of Cambridge Assessment and Cambridge University Press. Two education groups will serve teachers and learners, one focused on the UK and the other internationally, working closely together and with other parts of the organisation. The move is designed to support the Press & Assessment’s mission and goal to reach more schools, help more schools improve and support learners in getting better outcomes.
Jill Duffy, who currently leads UK exam board OCR, will lead the new UK education group and Rod Smith, who currently leads the Education publishing group, will lead the international education group. The two groups will work closely together, particularly in accelerating further our digital transformation and modernising the delivery of exams.
Jill Duffy said: “These changes are focused on improving how we serve our schools and learners. OCR will continue to be our UK exam board, providing both academic and vocational qualifications for schools and colleges. Our Cambridge Centre for Evaluation & Monitoring will grow the teaching and learning support it offers to customers globally, while remaining part of the UK group.”
Rod Smith said: “We are hugely proud of the quality and impact of our international assessment and publishing operations, and this will allow us to expand our reach even further around the world, building on our already leading international positions in assessment and learning. We want to create even more positive impact on education through improving outcomes for students and schools and by our partnership with education systems.”
Peter Phillips, Chief Executive of Cambridge University Press & Assessment said: “Bringing our organisation together in this way will help us serve our customers better, broaden career opportunities for our people and help attract the best people to Cambridge.”
The new UK group will operate from 1 March, while the international group will be established from August 2022, following this summer’s international exam series.
