Summary

Table A1 Critical values of chi-square when α=0.05, for 1–120 degrees of freedom. If the calculated value of chi-square is larger than the critical value for the appropriate number of degrees of freedom then the probability of the result is < 0.05 (and is therefore considered significant with an α of 0.05). For example, for three degrees of freedom the critical value is 7.815, so a chi-square larger than this indicates P < 0.05. Values were calculated using the method given by Zelen and Severo (1964).
