Votes of condolence

His lordship, after welcoming the clergy, referred to the absence of the Reverend H. S. Gill, who that morning had lost a daughter by death and whose youngest son was lying dangerously ill. He moved and the archdeacon seconded a vote of condolence with him. The Reverend E. W. Kissack moved and Reverend W. T. Hobson seconded a vote of condolence with the family of Reverend John Howard, formerly vicar of Onchan. The Reverend John Kewley moved and Reverend John Quione seconded a vote of condolence with the widow and family of Reverend B. J. S. Lupton, formerly chaplain of St Mark's, these were all unanimously passed by the whole of the clergy standing.

The bishop explained that owing to the absence of the Reverend H. S. Gill, the meeting of trustees was postponed.

Reporters

The question of the admission of reporters was left [236] to be decided by convocation. It was therefore proposed by Reverend B. P. Clarke, seconded by Reverend E. W. Kissack, that the proceedings be conducted in private and that the secretary give a report to the newspapers. Reverend A. A. Bridgman moved that the reporters be admitted, but this was not seconded.

The bishop pointed out that the houses of the northern convocation met sometimes with closed doors, and in his opinion, some topics should be discussed in public and some in private. After the discussion had been continued by revs. W. T. Hobson, J. Quine and E. Ferrier, the resolution was put to the vote and was carried with only three against it.

Minutes

The minutes of the preceding session were read by the secretary, approved by convocation and signed by the president.

Membership

The Reverend F. J. Moore raised the question of membership and asked if it was not now settled that every licensed priest could vote. The secretary quoted from the minutes to show that it was so settled, subject to legal opinion which Bishop Bardsley promised to obtain.
