Cocaine is one of the most commonly used illicit drugs in the UK and globally, with an estimated 18.1 million people having used it globally according to the 2019 World Drug Report. In England and Wales, when estimating drug use in the last year, powder cocaine was second only to cannabis for adults aged 16–59 (2.9% in the 2018/19 survey, equating to around 976,000 people). Powder cocaine was also the third most commonly used drug among young adults aged 16–24 (6.2%, or around 395,000 young adults), following cannabis and nitrous oxide.
