Books, Reading and Stories

Summary
When it comes to finding out about books or for ideas to inspire reading, we are spoilt for choice. Not only does the UK have some amazing national organisations dedicated to children's reading but we also have our national libraries and public library services, all of them supporting and inspiring reading for children and young people. To find your nearest local library enter your postcode at.
www.gov.uk/locallibrary- services.
There is also the UK publishing industry, with children's book publishers exemplary in their creation of materials to support their book titles. There are a host of learning toolkits, lesson plans and reading related activities given in the Learning Resources and Activities section below, which is complemented by the resources covered in the Publisher's Learning Resources section. Both of these sources will continue to grow, develop and change as new reading themes and books take centre stage; however, their ability to promote books to children and nurture a love of reading remains constant and of continued importance.
There is further reading guidance in the section on Book Recommendations, offering access to booklists and book collections. There are a few selected resources that use some of Britain's much-loved book characters or for books that now carry the accolade of ‘contemporary classic’. No doubt there are many more of these but those listed are some of the best available for those particular titles. And no guide would be complete without mentioning at least some popular authors by name; those included here are by way of example and you may be able to seek out more. To find others, aim to use official sites – these are often available through an author's publisher.
