Summary
Back injuries are amongst the most common causes of lost training and competition time for those participating in sport, and the structural complexity of the region poses significant challenges to those involved in athletic back injury management. Accurate diagnosis and effective treatment requires a sound knowledge of the structural and functional anatomy of the back and its component parts.
Our purpose in writing this book is to present the anatomy in a manner that provides a foundation for solving ‘real world’ clinical problems. Examples of problems requiring such knowledge are presented throughout the text. Radiographic images of the type commonly encountered in sports medicine are included to facilitate the recognition and interpretation of injured or abnormal structures.
We are confident the book will be valuable to students and practitioners involved in diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of back injuries in sport.
