Summary
A 27-year-old female presents with an uncomplicated delivery of a male neonate at an estimated gestational age of 37 weeks. In the delivery room, the nurses observe that the baby is drooling excessively and appears to be coughing and choking. Upon initiating breastfeeding, the infant becomes cyanotic. Feeding is discontinued. A nasogastric catheter is passed, and a chest X-ray reveals a distal tracheoesophageal fistula. What are your concerns? How will you induce anesthesia? How would you intubate this patient? When would you extubate?
