Summary
When the Red pogroms and the Grigor’evshchina broke out in Ukraine in 1919, the Soviet government in Moscow was caught unprepared. The campaigns against antisemitism initiated in the spring of 1918 had been dismantled by the growing drive towards centralization. How, then, did the Party leadership respond to the explosion of antisemitic violence in early to mid-1919?
