Summary
Vergeblich hat man sich bisher bemüht, zwischen Thukydides und dem einzigen documente übereinstimmung zu schaffen, das aus der processlitteratur des revolutionsjahres 411 erhalten ist. jetzt klären das die urkunden auf, die bei Aristoteles stehn, und die ich mit den I 101 ffg. Gewählten nummern bezeichnen will, A der beschluss des Pythodoros, B der der συγγϱαφῆς, C der der ἑκατόν.
Der redner für Polystratos sagt von diesem, dass er von den phyleten zum mitgliede der vierhundert gewählt war (2), dass er καταλογεύς war (13), und besonders 14 οὗτος οὔτε ὀμόσαι ἤϑελεν οὔτε καταλέγειν ἀλλʾ αὐτὸν ἠνάγκαζον ἐπιβολὰς ἐπιβάλλοντες καὶ ζημιοῦντες ἐπεὶ δʾ ἠναγκάσϑη καὶ ὤμοσε τὸν ὅϱκον, ὀκτὼ ἡμέϱας εἰσελϑὼν εἰς τὸ βονλεντήϱιον ἐξέπλει εἰς Ἐϱέτϱιαν καὶ ἐδόκει ἐκεῖ τὴν Ψυχὴν οὐ πονηϱὸς εἶναι ἐν ταῖς ναυμαχίαις καὶ τετϱωμένος καὶ τετϱωμένος δεῦϱʾ ἦλϑε καὶ ἤδη μετεπεπτώκει τὰπϱάγματα. hält man dazu den schlusspassus Bb, wo die bestellung der καταλογῆς durch die phyleten vorgeschrieben wird, welche ihres amtes walten sollen ὀμόσαντες καϑʾ ἱεϱῶν τελείων, so leuchtet unmittelbar ein, dass der erwahnte dem καταλέγειν vorhergehende eid eben der in dem volksbeschlusse geforderte ist, dass also die phyle Leontis den Polystratos von Deirades zum καταλογεύς erwählt hat. das war etwa im munichion des Kallias. aber mit dem eidschwur lasst der redner den eintritt in den rat zusammenfallen, denn 8 tage darauf geht Polystra tos nach Eretria ab. es ist undenkbar unter dem hier erwähnten eide einen anderen als zwei zeilen vorher zu verstehen: also ist es nicht der ratsherreneid. undenkbar ist es auch, in Polystratos einen ersatzmann für irgend einen verstorbnen der 400 (etwa seinen nachbarn Phrynichos von Deirades) zu sehen, undenkbar seine abfahrt nach Eretria mit der des Thymochares und seiner flotte gleichzusetzen (Thuk. 8,93), der ja erst ende metageitnion des Theopompos ausfuhr.
