Pindaros selbst sagt, dass er für den Alkmeoniden Megakles dichtet. die scholien haben den vatersnamen nicht mitgeteilt und dadurch verschuldet, dass Boeckh, von dem die folgenden abhängen, einen sinnreichen ausweg versuchen konnte, um die übrigen zeugnisse alle verwerten zu können. jetzt steht durch Aristoteles 22 und das ostrakon CIA IV p. 192 fest, dass M∈γαϰλῆς Ἱππоϰϱατоυς Ἀλωπ∈ϰῆϑ∈ν im frühjahr 486 durch den ostrakismos ausgewiesen ist. nimmt man dazu nur die bekannten stellen Herodot VI 125–131, Lysias 14, 39, Ps. Andokides 4, 34, so erhält man mit sicherheit das stemma Megakles der mörder Kylons – Alkmeon und Agariste – Kleisthenes und Hippokrates, ersterer kinderlos, letzterer vater von Megakles aus Alopeke und Agariste der frau des Perikles – Megakles wieder vater eines Megakles, schreibers der schatzmeister Athenas 428/7 und der Deinomache, die vor 452 den Eupatriden Kleinias aus Skambonidai geheiratet hat, dem sie Alkibiades und Kleinias gebar. allerdings hatte man diese ordnung wol fordern sollen, da sie allein Perikles und Alkibiades so nahe mit einander verbindet, wie sie gestanden haben müssen, damit die vormundschaft möglich war. das richtige hat Kirchhoff zu dem ostrakon gesagt, aber verschwiegen, dass ein eben so unzweideutiges zeugnis nunmehr für einfache schwindelei erklärt werden muss: Isokrates 16, 27 nennt den gesetzgeber Kleisthenes ausdrücklich unter den vorfahren desAlkibiades. eben darum hatte Boeckh neben Μεγαϰλῆς Ἱππоϰϱατоνς den schwiegervater des Perikles, einen Μεγαϰλῆς Κλεισϑένоυς als vater der Deinomache gestellt.
