Summary
Presenters are typically highly conscious of their audience, and small signs signalling agreement, loss of interest, or confusion can have a vast impact on their performance. The act of presenting may appear to be a one-way stream, but is in fact quite interactive. As a member of the audience, you benefit from a focused and motivated presenter – therefore, you would like to avoid conscious or unconscious behaviours that can undermine the presenter’s focus and motivation. In Chapter 12, we provide a number of dos and don’ts with respect to how to be a good audience member. We also provide you with some useful tips to stay alert and active, so that you can maximise your benefits from attending the presentation.
