Summary

JABIRU, NT (jab-i-TOO), 12 40S 132 54E (map 3), a town and local government area (Town of Jabiru, pop. 1410) in the alligator rivers region. Jabiru is a uranium mining site. The name is Portuguese in origin and has until recently been applied to the Australian blacknecked stork (Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus).

JACOBS WELL, Qld, an outer south-eastern Brisbane resort in the Shire of albert (map 23:D5).

JALLOONDA, Qld (jă-loon-dă), 19 09S 146 36E, a township (pop. 382) in the Townsville urban complex (map 5). It is within the boundaries of the City of thuringowa.

JAMBEROO, NSW (jam-bĕ-roo), 34 39S 150 46E, a town (pop. 482) in kiama Municipality (map 14B).

JAMBOREE HEIGHTS, Qld, a suburb of the City of brisbane to the south-west of indooroopilly (map 23:B4).

JAMESTOWN SA (james-town), 33 12S 138 36E (map 9), a town (pop. 1372) and district council area (pop. 947) in the Northern Statistical Division. It was named after Sir James Fergusson, Governor of South Australia 1869–73. The town stands on land previously occupied by Ngadjuri Aborigines. The region produces wool, wheat, beef and timber. Other centres and localities in Jamestown district include Caltowie and Tarcowie.

JAMISONTOWN, NSW(jam-ĭs-town), an outer western Sydney suburb in the south of the City of penrith (map 26:A1). It was named after Sir John Jamison, a naval surgeon who took up land in the Penrith area in 1814.

JANDABUP, WA (jan-dă-bup), an outer northern Perth locality in the City of wanneroo (map 2O:A1).
