Summary
QUAIRADING, WA (kwerr-ă-ding), 32 01S 117 24E (map 8), a town (pop. 654) and shire (pop. 1165) in the Midlands Region on what was formerly Nyungar Aboriginal land. The town of Quairading serves a district producing wool and grain. Other centres in Quairading Shire include Badjaling, Balkuling, Dangin, Doodenanning, Pantapin and Yoting.
QUAKERS HILL, NSW, a north-western Sydney suburb in the City of blacktown (map 26:C1). It got its name because an early settler on a nearby hill was a Quaker (a member of the Society of Friends).
QUAMBATOOK, Vic. (kwom-bă-took [‘oo’ as in ‘book’]), 35 51S 143 31E (map 17), a township (pop. 299) in kerang Shire in the north of the State. Its name is derived from kurmbatuk, a Wemba-wemba Aboriginal term for a species of rat.
QUARRY HILL, NSW, an outer western Sydney suburb in the City of penrith (map 26:B1).
QUEANBEYAN, NSW (queen-bi-ăn or queen-bee-anne), 35 21S 149 14E (maps 6B & 22B), a statistical area (pop. 21 850) and city (pop. 22 698) on the Southern Tablelands. It is effectively a residential sector of canberra — indeed, part of the statistical area is within the australian capital territory. Queanbeyan stands at the junction of the Queanbeyan and molonglo rivers on what was formerly Ngarigu Aboriginal land. The name, taken from the river, is said to mean ‘clearwater’ (not verified). Most of Queanbeyan is within the boundaries of the City of Queanbeyan, but a part in yarrowlumla Shire.
