Summary

Chapter II provides an analysis of the criminalization process in the United Kingdom. This chapter shows that since 1862, when the United Kingdom introduced criminal copyright for the first time, its scope and sanctions have repeatedly increased. While at first the United Kingdom reserved criminal copyright for unauthorized usage of painting, drawing, or photographs, since 1982 criminal copyright has been repeatedly and extensively extended to include additional types of works, new acts of infringement, and higher monetary and nonmonetary sanctions.
