CLAYHIDON

Four rates survive for this parish, near the Somerset border, which is located eleven miles north of Honiton. The parish had a population in 1642 of approximately 518 persons of whom some 14 per cent had paid the church rate.

3. Cleyhidon A copie of the Rate made for the repation of the Churche by the Parson & Churchwardens with the Consent of the prshioners after the rate of 1d in the pounde and to be encreased as occasion shall serve.

There is some slight water and rodent damage. The rate was endorsed in a later hand ‘Cleyhidon Rate’. The numerals are Roman with the exception of the year.
