ST ALLEN

[from the Summary Books]

Mr Nicholas Dyer V St Allen. Mr Thomas Peter Gurney C resident in the Vicarage House. Salary. The Vicar serves his Impropriate Cures of Lankey and Swimbridge, & resides very near the Parish. Service-Twice with a Sermon. Priest l0 June 1787. Instd 3l July 1793. Address Barnstaple, Devon. [Mr Dyers buildings & fences presented-& stated to have been repeatedly presented in vain.]

ALTARNON

I. 148, according to the censur of l8ll; 173, according to the censrur of 1821. II. Here are no Papists; but many Westleian Methodists; who for the most part frequent the Church. Here is no resident Teacher; but several Teachers occasionally visit the Parish. They are said to be licensed. They have one place of public meeting, licensed. III. I reside on my Benefice, in the proper house of Residence. IV. I have no Lecturer. V. I have no more Benefices than one. VI. I do not perform Divine Service in any Church besides my own. VII. Divine Service is performed in my Church twice every Lord's Day (with a Sermon in the Morning) at the hours of Eleven and Three. VIII. There is a School supported by Subscription in which the Church-Catechism is taught and the Scriptures are read. IX. Every year for several Sundays at the time of Evening Service. X. Eight times in the year. The number of Communicants varies from thirty to sixty. XI. There is a Benefaction for the Poor, consisting of an Annuity of &l and the rent of a Close of Land, under the Management of the Vicar and principal Inhabitants. It is properly applied. XII. Here is no Charitahle Endowment, nor parochial Library. XIII. Yes. XIV. Yes. XV. No. XVI. Date of Priest's Orders ll June 1786. Date of Institution 30 Jan 1806. ANTONY

I. The Population taken at the present season is 2673. II. There are many Dissinters Wesleyan Methodists, & some Calvinists. The Calvinist Teacher is resident in the Parish. The Visiting Teachers of the Methodists I believe to be various, but have no positive information of themthere are Four Places of Licenced Meeting in the Parish. III. I reside on my Benefice & in the proPer House of Residence.
