Summary

THE NOW-STANDARD form of date reference to the works of Freud will be used. References will appear in parentheses in the text, giving the accepted year of publication or writing, followed by the volume and page number from – unless otherwise stated – The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud, 24 volumes, translated from the German under the general editorship of James Strachey, in collaboration with Anna Freud, and assisted by Alix Strachey and Alan Tyson (London: Hogarth Press and the Institute of Psycho-Analysis, 1953–74).

Below is a list of those works cited in the text. The number following the title is the volume of the Standard Edition in which the work is found.
