Summary
Qua in die soluta est obsidio, ad quendam peruentum est pontem, ubi sua Christianus populus collocauit tentoria. Fecerunt autem ibi duos dies. lercia uero die, antequam matutinalis lucifer exalbesceret, iter preproperi arripuerunt. Et quoniam nox erat tenebrosa, incertain incerti tenuerunt uiam. Diuisi ergo abinuicem, duorum consummauerunt iter dierum Boamundus et Tancredus, et alii plures in uno erant agmine. In altero Tolosanus et Podiensis, duxque Godefredus, et Ugo Magnus, et Flandrensis, cum copiosis commeantium examinibus. Die altera post secundam, Turci, tamquam arena maris, innumeri contra Boamundum confluxerunt. Videntes autem Christianos, magna quidem confisi multitudine, intrepidi unanimiter ipsos impetebant. Animabat enim eos ira furorque. Indignabantur etiam, quod eorum possessiones depopularentur alienigene. Denique nimis egre ferebant, quod Nicheam presumpsissent expugnare. Boamundus uero uidens innumerabilem inimicorum multitudinem, suis et ore rabido et effero gladio minitantem et insultantem, stetit imperterritus, suisque satis consulte dixit comitibus:
‘Fortissimi Christi milites, ecce dimicandi tempus est. Metum omnem, qui etiam uiros effeminat, abiicite, et de uobis ipsis defensandis uiriliter procurate. Ictus impugnantium indefessi sustinete, et ex Iesu nostri confisi adiutorio, manus bellicosas exerite, uiresque auitas ecce, dum tempus est, ostentate. Ne queso, obturpetur propter nostram negligenciam laus Francorum, non uilescat propter nostram segnitiem sanctum nomen Christianorum. Res in arto est, bellum ex aduerso est, hostis multus in proximo est. Nichil tamen preter spem seu uoluntatem uestram uobis contigit.
