Summary
The son of a Greek mother and Venetian father, Foscolo was born on the Greek island of Zakynthos, for which he always felt a deep affection. Foscolo’s father died in 1788; in 1793 his family settled in Venice, where he met a circle of artists and writers, and learned to write in Tuscan, the literary dialect.
