Summary

In the name of Allāh the Beneficent, the Merciful onwhom I rely to the exclusion of all others. Praisebe to Allāh who is beyond comparison and blessingsand peace be upon Muhammad who had no shadow, andupon the family and the Companions, both the Muhājirūn and Anṣār, and all who belong tothe Islamic ummah

Allāh the Exalted, in His Infinite Wisdom, permitted meto reach a village [name unclear], then the villageof Baybul in the blessed land [name unclear] whichAllāh the Exalted protected from all calamities. Icame across a man named `Abd al-Jalīl here, one ofthe residents of those villages. He was one of thedisciples of our master, the gnostic (ārif billāh) al-Ḥājj `Ābdal-Muḥyi, who lives in the blessed village ofKāri`and was one of his contemporaries (may Allāhgrant him a long life and help him in all hisaffairs).

The brother mentioned above, ‘Abd al-Jalīl al-Mazbūr,requested some of the knowledge I had acquired fromour master and for me to point out how to accomplishwhat is intended by the expression of the ḥadith, “The heart of thebeliever is the throne of Allāh” and to accomplishwhat is meant by, “He who knows himself knows hisLord”. He also requested that I write the names ofthe sisilahs of allour shuyūkh from thetime of the origin of the ṭarīq and how Allāh has eased the pathfor the chiefs of that al-Shattariyya silsilah from whom we havebenefitted. Āmin.

I made istikhārahrepeatedly until I received permission from Him theExalted, and I said: “I am not qualified for thatand I am not competent in this field. However, I amcommitted to fulfil my loyalty to our deservingshuyūkh wheneverthere is a reason to obtain permission from them. Wedo not have power or strength except through Allāh,the Bountiful, the Essence”. One of thecharacteristics of authorisation is ease in allmatters. O the One who makes affairs easy, and notdifficult, O Generous One.
