Summary

In the name of Allāh, the Compassionate, the Merciful. All praise belongs to Allāh who uncovered themysterious and the hidden through the beauty of HisBeing; and Who laid bare the dubious and the complexwith the most resplendent part of His power andmight. Blessings and peace be upon our Leader,Muhammad , the one who has made his religion prevail(over other religions) and the embodiment of Hisreligion and the manifestation of His Wisdom, andupon his family and companions, the choicest amongthe majestic ones because they manifested wisdomafter Prophethood to all creation.

May Allāh strengthen you with the light of faith andmay He envelop you with the guidance of the Mostmighty, Most merciful and may He direct you throughthe favours of the most lofty station which is theobjective of gnosis (‘irfān).

Know that the difference between the soul and life forcreation is that the soul was acquired through theBreath of the Merciful Lord. This verse is pertinentin this regard, “On that Day (of Judgement) theTrumpet shall be blown and then you shall appearbefore Allāh in groups” (Qu’rān 78:18).

It is therefore known that the soul was decreed to thecreation for providing life to it, which occursthrough the divine breath. Therefore, the life ofcreation occurs through the soul and the soul cameinto existence through blowing. This blowing is adivine action performed in the functions assigned toIsrāfīl. There Allāh told His Chosen Prophet , whenthe latter asked about the soul that, “The soul isfrom the Command of the Lord and you have only beengiven a little knowledge about it” (Qu’rān17:85).

The Prophet said: “The truly living person among theservants is one whose sirr (secret) is living by the light ofAllāh, whose heart is living by the dhikr (remembrance) ofAllāh, and his limbs are living by the obedience toAllāh”. Therefore, whoever is characterised by thiskind of life will enjoy eternal life in the abode ofpeace – an abode in which Allāh has negated anymisery for such a one. All of this occurs throughthe traces of divine breath because where thisBreath is lacking, then such an everlasting life isnot found because all of that is the reason for lifethrough the soul in which the divine agencybreathes.
