Summary
When the Polish physician Józef Struś (Struthius, 1510–68) visited one of his patients, the wife of a nobleman, he knew he had to try an unusual method to diagnose what was wrong with her. The woman’s husband was away on a journey and Struś was charged with treating her for a fever. But he realised that the cause of her ailment was more than simply physical.
