‘“It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backwards”, said the Queen.’ From Alice through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll, (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), 1872.
An abundance of cheap energy has been essential for the growth of civilisation during this century, and, like so many of our resources, has been taken for granted— almost for too long. The title is derived from American folklore and is self-evident. ‘Without energy, can’t travel’ is also obvious; perhaps for today’s lecture a more appropriate slogan could be ‘have alternative energy sources, continue to travel’.
