6 Fol. 13 of ASS which should have contained the colophon of the first story in the collection, viz. the Ṛṣipañcaka-jātaka, and the beginning of the next story, the Sārthavāha-jātaka, is missing. Hence Bendal's error in the numbering of the stories, and also mine, when I gave a summary of the contents of ASS (Handurukande, Ratna, The Avadānasārasamuccaya, Studies in Indo-Asian Art and Culture, I, New Delhi, 1972, 79–89Google Scholar). I was able to identify story No. 1 of ASS on reading a Tokyo manuscript called the Jātakamālāvadāna-sūtra (Matsunami, S., A catalogue of the Sanskrit manuscripts in the Tokyo University Library, Tokyo, 1965, No. 139Google Scholar). This manuscript contains the first three stories of ASS.
