References

1 Portalupi takes Fronto too much at his own estimation in this connexion. Marache, Mots nouveaux et mots archaiques chez Fronton et Aulu-Gelle, pp. 99–100, has amply demonstrated how ready Fronto, and how much readier Aulus Gellius, was to innovate in matters of vocabulary. Yet Portalupi can still write ‘escluso rigorosamente l'uso dei neologismi’ (p. 112).
