The relevance of photochemistry in the electrical fatigue of organic layered photoconductors is discussed. A hole transport molecule DEH undergoes a photocyclization reaction in the charge transport layer to an indazole derivative, causing residual surface charges to persist during light decay. A dye chlorodiane blue, in the presence of DEH, initiates photochemistry at the hole transport/carrier generation interface resulting in chemical consumption of the dye. An activation energy of 15 – 20 kcal/mol is reported for the dye bleaching reaction.
