2 Only publications containing primarily catalogues of Byzantine musical manuscripts have been included in this list, but in many cases general catalogues of Greek manuscripts have offered extremely valuable and competent descriptions of musical manuscripts, for example Herbert Hunger and others, with assistance by Christian Hannick, Katalog der greichischen Handschriften der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek, 6 vols. (Vienna 1961–94). Though not a catalogue in a narrow sense, Nina-Maria Wanek's Nachbyzantinischer Gesang im Wandel. Studien zu den Musikhandschriften des Supplementum Graecum der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek (Vienna, 2007) also deserves mention.

4 Two nineteenth-century manuscripts in Western staff notation are also included, EBE 960 and 1946.
