Given a sequence of matrices (Am)m∈ℕ whose Lyapunov exponents are limits, we show that this asymptotic behaviour is reproduced by the sequences xm+1 = Amxm + fm(xm) for any sufficiently small perturbations fm. We also consider the general case of exponential rates ecρm for an arbitrary increasing sequence ρm. Our approach is based on Lyapunov's theory of regularity.

Let G be a finite p-solvable group. We describe the structure of the p-complements of G when the set of p-regular conjugacy classes has exactly three class sizes. For instance, when the set of p-regular class sizes of G is {1, pa, pam} or {1, m, pam} with (m, p) = 1, then we show that m = qb for some prime q and the structure of the p-complements of G is determined.

We study the space of commuting elements in the central product Gm,p of m copies of the special unitary group SU(p), where p is a prime number. In particular, a computation for the number of path-connected components of these spaces is given and the geometry of the moduli space Rep(ℤn, Gm,p) of isomorphism classes of flat connections on principal Gm,p-bundles over the n-torus is completely described for all values of n, m and p.

We obtain a removal lemma for systems of linear equations over the circle group, using a similar result for finite fields due to Král′, Serra and Vena, and we discuss some applications.

C*-algebras form a 2-category with *-homomorphisms or correspondences as morphisms and unitary intertwiners as 2-morphisms. We use this structure to define weak actions of 2-categories, weakly equivariant maps between weak actions and modifications between weakly equivariant maps. In the group case, we identify the resulting notions with known ones, including Busby–Smith twisted actions and the equivalence of such actions, covariant representations and saturated Fell bundles. For 2-groups, weak actions combine twists in the sense of Green, and Busby and Smith.

The Packer–Raeburn Stabilization Trick implies that all Busby–Smith twisted group actions of locally compact groups are Morita equivalent to classical group actions. We generalize this to actions of strict 2-groupoids.

Is the cohomology of the classifying space of a p-compact group, with Noetherian twisted coefficients, a Noetherian module? In this paper we provide, over the ring of p-adic integers, such a generalization to p-compact groups of the Evens–Venkov Theorem. We consider the cohomology of a space with coefficients in a module, and we compare Noetherianity over the field with p elements with Noetherianity over the p-adic integers, in the case when the fundamental group is a finite p-group.

Spectral and dynamical properties of some one-dimensional continuous Schrödinger and Dirac operators with a class of sparse potentials (which take non-zero values only at some sparse and suitably randomly distributed positions) are studied. By adapting and extending to the continuous setting some of the techniques developed for the corresponding discrete operator cases, the Hausdorff dimension of their spectral measures and lower dynamical bounds for transport exponents are determined. Furthermore, it is found that the condition for the spectral Hausdorff dimension to be positive is the same for the existence of a singular continuous spectrum.

We prove the compactness of critical Sobolev embeddings with applications to nonlinear singular Schrödinger equations and provide a unified treatment in dimensions N > 2 and N = 2, based on a somewhat unexpectedly broad array of parallel properties between spaces and H10 of the unit disc. These properties include Leray inequality for N = 2 as a counterpart of Hardy inequality for N > 2, pointwise estimates by ground states r(2−N)/2 and of the respective Hardy-type inequalities, as well as compactness of the limiting Sobolev embeddings once the Sobolev norm is appended by a potential term whose growth at singularities exceeds that of the corresponding Hardy-type potential.

We develop a theory of 2-fusion systems of even characteristic, and use that theory to show that all S3-free saturated 2-fusion systems are constrained. This supplies a new proof of Glauberman's Theorem on S4-free groups and its various corollaries.

The Boros–Moll polynomials Pm (a) arise in the evaluation of a quartic integral. It has been conjectured by Boros and Moll that these polynomials are infinitely log-concave. In this paper, we show that Pm (a) is 2-log-concave for any m ≥ 2. Let di (m) be the coefficient of ai in Pm (a). We also show that the sequence is log-concave.

We give two generalizations of Kac's Theorem on representations of quivers. One is to representations of equipped graphs by relations, in the sense of Gelfand and Ponomarev. The other is to representations of quivers in which certain of the linear maps are required to have maximal rank.

Let F be an algebraically closed field, G be a finite group and H be a subgroup of G. We answer several questions about the centralizer algebra FGH. Among these, we provide examples to show that

• • the centre Z(FGH) can be larger than the F-algebra generated by Z(FG) and Z(FH),

• • FGH can have primitive central idempotents that are not of the form ef, where e and f are primitive central idempotents of FG and FH respectively,

• • it is not always true that the simple FGH-modules are the same as the non-zero FGH-modules HomFH(S, T ↓ H), where S and T are simple FH and FG-modules, respectively.

We consider classifying spaces of a family of p-groups and prove that mod p cohomology enriched with Bockstein spectral sequences determines their homotopy type among p-completed CW-complexes.

When a minimal Heilbronn character θ is unfaithful on a Sylow p-subgroup P of a finite group G, we know that G is quasi-simple, p is odd, P is cyclic, NG(P) is maximal and either NG(P) is the unique maximal subgroup containing Ω1(P) or G/Z(G) ≅ L2(q) for q an odd prime with p dividing q − 1. In this paper we examine the exceptional case, where G/Z(G) ≅ L2(q), explicitly constructing unfaithful minimal Heilbronn characters from the non-principal irreducible characters of G.

The famous five halves theorem of Boardman states that, if T: Mm → Mm is a smooth involution defined on a non-bounding closed smooth m-dimensional manifold Mm (m > 1) and if

is the fixed-point set of T, where Fj denotes the union of those components of F having dimension j, then 2m ≤ 5n. If the dimension m is written as m = 5k − c, where k ≥ 1 and 0 ≤ c < 5, the theorem states that the dimension n of the fixed submanifold is at least β(m), where β(m) = 2k if c = 0, 1, 2 and β(m) = 2k − 1 if c = 3, 4. In this paper, we give, for each m > 1, the equivariant cobordism classification of involutions (Mm, T), for which the fixed submanifold F attains the minimal dimension β(m).

We introduce different notions of invertibility for generalized functions in the sense of Colombeau. Several necessary conditions for (left, right) invertibility are derived, giving rise to the concepts of compactly asymptotic injectivity and surjectivity. We analyse the extent to which these properties are also sufficient to guarantee the existence of a (left, right) inverse of a generalized function. Finally, we establish several Inverse Function Theorems in this setting and study the relation to their classical counterparts.

We study a class of Hermitian metrics on complex manifolds, recently introduced by Fu, Wang and Wu, which are a generalization of Gauduchon metrics. This class includes the class of Hermitian metrics for which the associated fundamental 2-form is ∂∂-closed. Examples are given on nilmanifolds, on products of Sasakian manifolds, on S1-bundles and via the twist construction introduced by Swann.

Many problems about local analysis in a finite group G reduce to a special case in which G has a large normal p-subgroup satisfying several restrictions. In 1983, R. Niles and G. Glauberman showed that every finite p-group S of nilpotence class at least 4 must have two characteristic subgroups S1 and S2 such that, whenever S is a Sylow p-subgroup of a group G as above, S1 or S2 is normal in G. In this paper, we prove a similar theorem with a more explicit choice of S1 and S2.

We define sparse saturated fusion systems and show that, for odd primes, sparse systems are constrained. This simplifies the proof of the Glauberman–Thompson p-Nilpotency Theorem for fusion systems and a related theorem of Stellmacher. We then define a more restrictive class of saturated fusion systems, called extremely sparse systems, that are constrained for all primes.

In this paper, we investigate the existence of global weak solutions to an integrable two-component Camassa–Holm shallow-water system, provided the initial data u0(x) and ρ0(x) have end states u± and ρ±, respectively. By perturbing the Cauchy problem of the system around rarefaction waves of the well-known Burgers equation, we obtain a global weak solution for the system under the assumptions u− ≤ u+ and ρ− ≤ ρ+.
