Proceedings of the Nutrition Society is a hybrid journal, meaning that it publishes on a subscription basis but provides authors with options to make their article open access in two different ways.
Under the Nutrition Society’s generous Green Open Access policy (Burdge et al. Br J Nutr. 2016 116(4):571-572), authors can archive certain versions of their articles in an institutional or non-commercial subject repository, or on their personal or departmental websites, often immediately on acceptance. This allows authors to comply with the open access mandates of many funders and institutions. Please see the table below for details on how authors may archive their article.
Personal webpage | Departmental/ Institutional Repository | Non-commercial subject repository | Commercial repository/Social media sites
Accepted manuscript* | On acceptance for publication | On acceptance for publication | On acceptance for publication | Abstract only in PDF or HTML format no sooner than the first publication of the full article
Version of record** | On publication | 12 Months after first publication | 12 Months after first publication | Abstract only in PDF or HTML format no sooner than the first publication of the full article
*The version that was accepted by the journal which has not been subjected to typesetting or other modification by the publisher
**The fully typeset version that appears in the printed and online issues of the journal.
Under Gold Open Access the author can choose on acceptance of their article to publish under a Creative Commons license, enabling anyone to access and redistribute the content and, depending upon the license, re-use the content in new or derivative works with attribution. The terms of re-use for Gold Open Access content are stated in the copyright line.
Gold Open Access is supported by an article processing charge (APC) typically paid for by the author’s funding body or institution. For more details journal’s APC and the payment process, see the Gold Open Access for journals page.
