We are seeking your support for a special issue in honor of Pablo Martín Aceña. As the editor of the Revista de Historia Económica-Journal of Iberian and Latin American Economic History from 1995 to 2003, he demonstrated a steadfast commitment to expanding the circulation of scholarship on Latin American economic history.

Special issue editors:

Andrés Regalsky, IEH - UNTREF - Argentina, regalsky@utdt.edu

Cecilia Moreira, IECON-FCEA-UdelaR – Uruguay, cecilia.moreira@fcea.edu.uy

Gastón Díaz, PHES-FCS-UdelaR – Uruguay, gaston.diaz@cienciassociales.edu.uy

Special issue information:

The special issue aims to create a space for discussion and exchange of research on banking, credit, and financial markets across Latin America from the 19th century to the contemporary era. In its broadest dimension, it aims to explore the evolution of the financial and banking sector, its connection to real economic performance, and its role in long-term development processes. It advocates for a broad time frame to detect long-term patterns and, at the same time, to identify the historical specificity of the development of banking and financial markets. Additionally, it is open to receiving studies that address regional and national experiences alongside comparative analyses.

The call is broad and welcomes studies on the banking sector and its components (public, private, and cooperative banking), as well as the relationship of the banking and financial system with trade, consumption, productive sectors, and the state. Furthermore, submissions examining securities markets, the emergence of financial markets across the continent, as well as the dynamics of banking expansion and credit dissemination are highly encouraged.

The deadline for submitting papers is December 30, 2024.

Manuscripts should be submitted through the RHE ScholarOne site.
