Special issue: Emerging Technologies for Innovating Biomimetics and Robotics

Aims & Scope:

Biologically inspired and biomimetic robotics have emerged in the last decade as a strong and vibrant field of research. Compared to traditional robots, incorporating biomimetic approaches and concepts into the robot design is creating many impressive bio-inspired robots that are extremely flexible and robust in face of environmental contingencies and complex terrains, due to their outstanding locomotion performance, active body configuration capability, and multiple terrain mobility that are found in the nature. Recent efforts and exploring on biomimetics and robotics research have demonstrated the great innovation trend to the engineered systems that are capable of mimicking morphological adaptivity and outstanding locomotion and manipulation abilities of live animals in the face of environmental contingencies, so as to boost a rapid growth/progress of the robotics research and its potential technological applications including in advanced manufacturing, space or planetary exploration, emergency and industrial activities, medicine, etc.

This special issue in Robotica is intended to expedite publication of novel and significant research results, technology and/or conceptual breakthrough of emerging topics/areas of biomimetics and robotics, such as novel biomimetic robot design and mechanisms, bio-inspired robots/soft robots, morphing mechanisms and reconfigurable robots, intelligent mechatronic systems, bio-inspired sensors and actuators, bio-inspired locomotion or navigation or manipulation strategies, bio-inspired micro/nano robotics, human-robot interfaces, smart prostheses and aids, wearable robotics and exoskeletons, learning based biomimetic robots, vision guided robots, haptic/tactile perception and interfaces, unmanned autonomous vehicles, etc. We invite submissions from selected high-quality ROBIO 2022 papers as related to recent advances in emerging topics/areas of biomimetics and robotics.

The submission to the special issue will have two steps, the program committee will select the potential high-quality accepted ROBIO 2022 papers and suggest/recommend the authors to submit their papers to the special issue of Robotica. Next, the recommended papers will follow the proposed submission deadlines and all review procedures of Journal Robotica. The publication decisions will be made during or after all the review processes (two review rounds).
