President Johnson's policy in Southeast Asia and U.S, intervention in the Caribbean have been condemned by a number of leading American professors and journalists, a vocal minority of liberals in Congress, and some leaders of religious groups and the Civil Rights movement. “Teach-ins” on Vietnam have been held at many universities and colleges across the country, and were capped by the confrontations in Washington between supporters and critics of the Administration.
