Summary

The reason for writing this beautiful book, which resembles a perfumed veil adorning the beloved's face, is that one day our felicitous Çemberlitaş Hamamı, having become a frail old building, enticed me to record its history in prose in order to leave its fame and reputation on the pages of Time so that it may be remembered with well-wishing prayers. And I, Nina Macaraig, God's broken-hearted, meek, impoverished and humble servant, realised its wish by writing down this work to the best of my ability as a pitiful gift with which I entered into its happiness-causing presence. I subtitled it The Biographical Memoir of a Turkish Bath and humbly beg friends who read this epic to veil my shortcomings as much as possible with forgiveness, and not to turn this humble servant into a target of criticism with the saying ‘The higher you reach, the harder you fall’.
