Book I - Foundations
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 19 November 2022
Summary
The purpose of the European Union, which was founded as the European Economic Community and later became the European Community, is not the unification or harmonisation of private law but the integration of Europe. The private law of the European Union has therefore grown as part of the integration programme, which, to a large extent, explains its characteristics (Part I), its gradual emergence and development (Part II) and the multiple facets of its sources (Part III).
