In the diagram, grey and black blocks represent the active sections of narrative thread. A black block means that the thread (or bundle of threads) is picked up by means of Alternation (by means of a formal switch, which is indicated by a blank line), whereas a grey one indicates Combination. If the last block of a thread's section is not followed by a blank line (indicating a new ‘chapter’), the thread was released by means of Separation.

The first column gives the ‘chapters’ and ‘paragraphs’ by referring to M, the second gives the chronological and geographical information available in the text. The next twenty columns represent the important primary narrative threads in Part 3; the leftmost column gives all of the connective threads: each character/thread is named when it is presented in the tale.
