Summary
From 1719 onwards, the Dutch retranslation of Gilbert de Flines was gradually revised to adapt to new spelling conventions. The two editions from the Southern Netherlands (Ghent 1788 and Veurne 1807) were translated by the compositor Jean-Baptiste Rommel. From selected editions the first lines were taken from Galland's preface and the opening page of Part 1. For the edition numbers please see above, Appendix 1.

Het is niet van noode de / leeser voor te koomen / met de verdienste en / frajigheid van deese ver- / tellingen op te haalen.
