Summary
The Repingdon-derived temporal cycle M/3 appears also in Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Barlow 24, a late fifteenth-century paper manuscript. To it has been added a set of fifty-five sermons for saints’ days and for the non-dominical feast days (Christmas, Epiphany, Ascension, etc.; N-55 to 109 in my inventory) that are not represented in the temporal cycle (A), nor are they based on Repingdon's work. The two parts together, A and B, thus, form a systematic sermon collection for nearly all occasions of the Church year, including several common sermons for a martyr, confessor, virgin, and deceased person. In this manuscript, neither cycle is ascribed to an author, but whoever may have written A and B and then combined them, the two cycles were put together to form one unified collection; evidence for this lies in at least one clear reference in B to a sermon in A. The manuscript is written in one column by two distinct hands, both fairly cursive Secretary scripts of the second half of the fifteenth century. The first hand wrote A, then the two topical indices, and consecutively half of the first sermon of B, where the second hand took over (f. 142, in line 9).
Between A and B stand two alphabetical subject indices, one for each cycle. That for A is incomplete, as two leaves of the new quire have been ripped out.
