Summary
Introduction
This publication is part of the 3S Initiative on Sacred Species and Sites, one of the activities of the IUCN–WCPA Specialist Group on Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas (CSVPA) coordinated by the Cambridge Centre for Landscape and People (CCLP).
The following selection of poetic contributions from some of the spiritual members of the 3S Community demonstrates an inherent caring for nature and the environment within spiritual traditions that embraces ecological ideals. While these contributions come from a variety of faiths and groups, the selection is not meant to be representative, nor does it cover the breadth and diversity of the community of researchers, scholars, practitioners and spiritual leaders who share the same goals.
The editors thank the contributors for blessing this publication with these words of wisdom and compassion.
Inspirational thoughts from Saint Francis of Assisi and the International Communities for the Renewal of Earth have also been included to close this circle of spirituality and nature. In particular, The Earth Charter Guide to Religion and Climate Change, published 11 November 2008, includes an appendix containing the reflection reported below, originally composed in 1991 by the International Communities for the Renewal of Earth (ICRE).
